Musicology Live 2004ever Tour

2004

I’m not supposed to be here. But here I am.

The tour was bolstered by success of Prince‘s Musicology album. The Musicology Live2004ever Tour was a considerable commercial success: it sold 1.47 million tickets and grossing $87.4 million across its 90 shows – copies of the album given to each attendee to entry to the show. Performed in the round on an X-shaped stage it, like the album, was to evoke musicianship and the heyday of R&B, soul and funk.

The attendees were named by Prince his True Funk Soldiers, and families were encouraged to attend. Some shows had to be cancelled due to the tragic death of drummer John Blackwell’s daughter. 2004 was a momentous year for Prince and so gave much publicity and prompted the extension of the Musicology 2004ever Tour: Prince was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the opening act for the 2004 Grammy Awards ceremony (events largely attributed to regenerating Prince’s career.
