Getting Vertigo in the Inner Circle Love Is Blindness
If you found getting into a U2 concert hard enough, then you know that making it to the golden circle is something else. Having been a U2 fan for a number of years I still marvel at those lucky few manage who make it to that inner sanctum of the golden circle. I stood at Popmart, Elevation and Vertigo surrounded by the most avid fans, many more “fanned” up that I am, all wondering the same as I, if they would ever make it to the ‘inside’ themselves. Its supposed to be made fairer now as you wait to get your ticket scanned to see if you have been selected to go stage-side. Unfortunately this lucky dip takes all the science out of the core fans arsenal - getting up early and making sure they are within the first few hundred at the turnstiles. But being in a position sharing the same space as the core fan club members in the middle of the stadiums and arenas is also quite self assuring knowing that you have done well enough to make it that far near the front. You feel like you have cut a corner by overtaking those at the concert who have been fans far longer than you have, but your smugness turns to wonder as you begin promising yourself that next time it will be you that makes it into the inside, unfortunately so does the other 70,000 fans that surround you. Perhaps its just how its supposed to be, and would the challenge abate when you finally make it there, HELL NO, keep trying.
