Prince announced in London on the 9th of May that he will be performing concerts for The Earth Tour at The O2 in London, the site formally known as the Millennium Dome, for 21 dates in London. Promoted by AEG Live, the tour is billed as the final time he will be performing his hits live, officially touted as the only European concert venue on the Earth Tour will be London though there have been recent rumers that he would also be performiong in Paris in 2008!

The shows took place 'in the round' on a symbol-shaped stage taking the floor. All tickets included a free copy of his new album, Planet Earth, plus a purple glowstick on the final night handed out to every ticket holder as they arrived at the shows. The concert tickets went on general sale on May 11th, selling 140,000 seats in just 20 minutes, causing the The O2 and a ticket sellers site to crash with the overload of Prince concert mania. 7 Extra dates were added on May 11th to answer the demand, however these shows sold out too. Nikka Costa, Common, and Beverley knight were the opening acts for some dates. All of the 21 shows were sold out in the 23,000 capacity venue, a total of 378,000 tickets, many fans going more than once due to the low £31.21 ticket price, however, some on eBay for the final night fetched £600 a peice. Each show was followed by an after party at the Indigo2 club next to the arena with Prince performing on some nights.

In the run up to the tour, Prince performed seven shows in the Blossom Room at the Hollywood Roosevelt for a reported fee of $3m. To cover those costs the hotel charged $3,121 for a table for two and $312.10 for general admission. In London Prince rehearsed with the band at Wembley Arena on the 27th of July to prepare for the shows at the O2 beginning on 1 August.
